Clayton N. Cox

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette for Clayton N. Cox, 86, who passed away peacefully Friday, October 5, 2012, at her home.

Committal will follow in the Columbarium at the church.

The Reverend Joseph Daly and the Reverend Dr. Duane Petersen will be the celebrants.

Clayton was born in Gulfport, MS where she graduated from Gulfport High School. She attended LSU where she met and married G. Ray Cox. She worked as a writer for the State Times & Morning Advocate to put her husband through LSU Law School. They spent their married life in Houston, TX, Lafayette and New Roads, LA before settling back in Lafayette eight years ago. During her career as a journalist she was the Women's News Editor for The Daily Advertiser and a business news writer for The Houston Post. Upon her return to Lafayette, she became a member of The Church of the Ascension where her association with The Olive Branch enriched the lives of our area home bound and nursing home patients.

Clayton's wonderful positive outlook on life was contagious. She will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing her.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her only child, Carol Patton, wife of Michael Patton. She was blessed to have her family grow to include five grandchildren, Brian Patton and wife Jeannie of Lafayette, Erin Rabourn and husband Mike of Berkeley, CA, Major Matthew Patton and wife Sydney of Enon, OH, Rebecca Parker and husband Mark of Houston, TX and Ellen Patton of Lafayette. Her six great-grandchildren are, Evan and Eli Patton, Cannon, Mitchell and Andrew Patton and Hayes Parker. Also surviving Mrs. Cox are nieces Lynn Baker, Anne Hoke, Patricia Henson, Susan Bennett, Peggy Sims, and nephew, Tim Devereux.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, G. Ray Cox; her parents, Marie Brehm and Clayton Nelson; her sister, Marie Hoke; and sister-in-law, June Cox.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clayton's name to Olive Branch of The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 1030 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA, 70501.
